Flaregames forges partnership with Well Played Games and Games Workshop to bring Citadel Combat Cards to mobile on November 22nd
UK studio Well Played Games developing adaptation of cult Warhammer 40,000 card game
Wednesday, September 26, 2018 — Games Workshop classic Citadel Combat Cards, a card game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, is coming to the App Store and Google Play on November 22nd courtesy of a partnership between award-winning publisher Flaregames and experienced UK developer Well Played Games.
Citadel Combat Cards is a cult favourite among the Warhammer community, originally launched by Games Workshop back in the early 1990s and revised with a new edition in 2017.
In this digital adaptation, Well Played Games has ensured that every Warhammer 40,000 faction is represented in the largest roster of cards ever seen in Citadel Combat Cards. Better yet, each card features an ‘Eavy Metal-painted Warhammer 40,000 miniature from Games Workshop’s physical product line.
Citadel Combat Cards has built a legacy for introducing new players to the eternal conflict of Warhammer 40,000, and this adaptation is a continuation of that. Warhammer 40,000 veterans will welcome the opportunity to continue their collections in the virtual realm while card game fans – or simply those curious about all things grimdark – will be trading the skulls of their enemies for new cards and upgraded warriors in no time.
“Well Played Games has done a fantastic job bringing Citadel Combat Cards into the digital world and evolving it far beyond the physical game,” said Keith Ainslie, Flaregames Executive Producer. “What they’re creating is a living and breathing Citadel Miniatures card game experience and we can’t wait to see the reaction at launch from both diehard Warhammer fans and the broader mobile gaming audience.”
“As lifelong fans of Warhammer 40,000, Citadel Combat Cards is a dream project,” said Stuart Maine, Well Played Games Co-founder. “We’ve been able to fill the game with both brand new and classic miniatures, plus references for both new and veteran players. We’ve really enjoyed creating this game and are looking forward to supporting and expanding it for years to come.”
